The drink that surprises people. Strawberry and coffee — you wouldn’t think it works, but the bean’s natural berry notes meet the fruit and amplify each other.

Why this works

Single-origin Ethiopian beans naturally taste of red berries. Adding actual berries doesn’t mask the coffee — it makes the bean taste more like itself.

Ingredients

  • 18g whole bean coffee — Ethiopian preferred for its berry notes
  • 4 fresh strawberries (or 60g frozen)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 240ml fresh milk, cold
  • 4–5 ice cubes
  • 1 strawberry sliced — for garnish

How to make iced strawberry latte

  1. Make the strawberry compote first: mash strawberries with sugar, let sit 10 minutes. The sugar pulls juice out — that’s the syrup.
  2. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the compote into the bottom of a 400ml glass. Save the rest for tomorrow’s drink — keeps 3 days.
  3. Add ice to fill two-thirds of the glass.
  4. Pour cold milk to within 2cm of the rim. Don’t stir yet.
  5. Pull a double shot (36g) directly over the back of a spoon onto the milk. Three layers: red, white, brown.
  6. Stir to combine right before drinking.

💡 Tip: This works with mango, passion fruit, or guava too. Match the bean to the fruit: light roast for berries, medium for stone fruit, dark for tropical.
